Emergencies!

We all have them! Sometimes, despite our best care and attention, our pet becomes sick, injured, decides to have babies on the weekend, fights with a porcupine, is "hit by a car", or just don't seem right and our own veterinarian is closed! At OPVMC, we care for emergency patients 24-hours a day. Like an emergency room, there are no appointments. Once you arrive with your sick or injured pet, the veterinarian will see you as soon as he/she can. During regularly scheduled appointment times, we have a veterinarian who is caring for emergencies only, no appointments, so emergencies don't have to be "squeezed in", but receive the care and attention they need and our patients deserve. Our laboratory functions seven days a week to provide diagnostics tools and when needed, our emergency service veterinarian performs emergency surgery. Some days and times, we have two veterinarians providing emergency service because the need is so great. Our emergency service professional and support staff also cares for all hospitalized patients and is vital in providing the round-the-clock care all our patients need! You're welcome to utilize this service, but we hope you never need to!

Welcome to 24-Hour Patient Care

In 1991, our hospital became staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The partners of OPVMC, associate veterinarians, technicians and support staff of OPVMC have dedicated their lives to improving the quality of life for your pets, especially the sick and injured.

We feel that dedication should not be restricted to appointment times, or business hours only, resulting in the hospital's emergency critical care service. To ensure that your pets receive the best care possible, we have dedicated emergency doctor coverage during our appointment hours each day.  We also maintain a veterinarian and support staff caring for our hospitalized patients 24 hours per day, no matter why they are hospitalized. You can be assured that while hospitalized for any reason, your pet will never be alone or unmonitored!

"Always the patient's advocate" -

That is the mission of our hospital and the staff who work here each day. To achieve this goal, we combine cutting-edge medical procedures and state-of-the-art technology, with genuine care for the well-being of your pet, 24 hours per day, every day!

While you are nestled under your blankets at home, you will be comforted to know, that there is a skilled staff including a veterinarian, licensed veterinary technicians, and veterinary assistants attending to the nursing care of your pet in the hospital.  Our high level of staffing enables us to closely monitor your pet's health, carry out the orders of the veterinarian and adjust the treatments, if needed, to make our patient, your pet, more comfortable and assure his/her well-being. We at OPVMC  believe this services saves lives and provides 24-hour care you can trust.

Wildlife Emergency--Injured/Sick

Sometimes a good Samaritan in our surrounding community finds an injured or sick wildlife species (bird, bunny, squirrel, etc), and contacts us for care.  We are not equipped to offer full-service wildlife rehabilitation, but we will assist you in contacting the appropriate wildlife agency to supply the appropriate care to the wild animal species you have found and captured.  When necessary, we will treat injured and sick wildlife when the Wildlife rehabilitation agency authorizes such treatment, or if no agency contact can be made and the animal is in a life-threatenting situation.  Uninjured wildlife that just seems lost is referred to the responsible agency for pick up and care.  Please call our office should you find any wildllife whether just lost, sick, or injured, and we will assist you determining the care needed.
