OPVMC's Emergency Service focuses on you and your pet at all times during the course of your pet's emergency visit. Our philosophy is to provide excellent, personalized and state-of-the-art care, delivered with skill and compassion.

It's best if you call ahead to let us know the condition of your pet and allow us to conduct a telephone triage, since our staff can give you advice on dealing with your emergency. Also, we can better prepare for you arrival. When you call ahead, the technician will advise you on any immediate actions you need to take, obtain basic information, and make sure you have good directions to our Hospital.

If you have not visited us recently, here's what to expect on your visit, along with helpful information:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you arrive, your pet will be evaluated by an experienced technician,  "triaged",  and a determination will be made at that time whether your pet is stable enough to wait briefly in the waiting room or if your pet needsimmediate medical evaluation and care by the veterinarian and if so, brought to the exam room. While the triage exam process is underway for your pet, you'll complete your admission forms.  For life-threatening, your pet may be whisked away to our treatment center for immediate life saving evaluation and care.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The veterinarian will perform a physical examination and determine if your pet needs for possible hospitalization or outpatient care.  If your pet needs to be hospitalized, a deposit of 75% of the estimate will be required. When your pet is hospitalized, you'll be informed if there's any significant change in your pet's condition or care estimates. For outpatient care, the veterinarian may recommend diagnositcs tests, and/or x-ray.  The veterinarian may provide treatment in the form of injectable medications and fluid therapy and then send your pet home with you for follow-up with nursing care at home that you provide.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When your pet is discharged, you will be provided a full summary of charges and treatments.   Also, a copy will be sent to your regular veterinarian.
