Consultations by Specialists We offer specialty services in the area of internal medicine, surgery, and behavioral science. Dr. James Fingeroth is our boarded surgeon, Dr. David Brummer is our internist. The behavioral specialist is a visiting veterinarian from Cornell University, Dr. Katherine Houpt who schedules appointments here once a month. The opportunity to discuss your pet's problems with you, as well as to observe and physically examine your pet, is required in order for us to determine the nature of your pet's problems. We are then able to cooperatively discuss the possible diagnoses, likely effective treatment plans, possible outcomes as well as your wishes in regards to your pet's care. In order for you to access our referral veterinarians, your pet needs to be sent to us (referred) by another veterinarian for a specific problem that the referring veterinarian does not or cannot treat or for the expertise of a specialist to precisely diagnose the problem and provide recommendation for treatment as well as provide the treatment, if needed. If your pet has recurring or ongoing problems that you believe need an expert's review and care ask your veterinarian for a referral to a specialist. When you are scheduled for an appointment with one of our specialists, you will have an opportunity to have your pet examined, discuss the problem for which you were referred to us by your own veterinarian and receive a treatment plan. The specialist will review the information and referral status sent by your own veterinarian as well as any tests, x-rays, or previous treatment in order to assess the problem. The specialist will provide the treatment if you choose to do so or if your veterinarian can provide treatment, you may utilize that option as well. |
