Dr. Giovanna Multala

Giovanna was born and raised in New York City. Her parents emigrated from Italy where she still has family.  She has an older brother Dominic, who is in sales, and lives in Chicago and a sister Maria in Manhattan, who co-founded a drug rehabilitation program in 1989.

Giovanna earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry at St. John's University, suma cum laude,  in 1980, and then went to Cornell University for her degree in Veterinary Medicine.  She is honored to have graduated as part of the class of 1984 (classmates of the Drs. Brummer at OPVMC), and is very happy to be a part of the OPVMC team, even with a one-way 90-mile commute.

After 4 years in general practice in Rochester, NY, she committed her career to Emergency Medicine/Critical Care in 1988.  Her interests include emergency soft tissue surgeryand ophthalmology.

Along with Giovanna's commitment to emergency medicine is the love for her family.  She married Henry in 1989.  Henry is originally from Stockholm Sweden, and is a recruiter for an independent financial institution.  They have a son Evan, born in 1995 and a daughter Brenna, born in 1997  In February 2007, the family adopted a little girl from China, Lienne, born in April 2002.  Together with 5 cats, a dog , and a number of pond goldfish they live in the country in the Western New York area.

In Giovanna's spare time you can find her weight training, practicing yoga, volunteering at her church and children's school, gardening water lilies in her goldfish pond or orchids in the home.  Some of Giovanna's turnoffs include arrogance, lack of team spirit, people who drive too slow in the left hand lane, and speeding tickets!
