Pet Physical Therapy & Canine Rehabilitation in Buffalo NY Area
Pet Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation
The goal of physical therapy and rehabilitation is to relieve pain, improve movement and function, and limit disability resulting from injury or disease. Treatment may include the therapeutic use of hands, exercise, application of therapeutic techniques such as ultrasound and electrical stimulation, home exercises, and training of the pet owner. Different modalities, such as heat, cold, water, sound, electricity, massage, and exercise, can be used to promote healing of tissues and stimulate movement of muscles and joints.
Veterinary Referrals for Rehabilitation Services
As of May 1st, 2016 OPVMC no longer accepts outside referrals for PT. However if your patient is referred here for surgery and surgery is performed here, PT will still be part of the recovery plan while the patient is hospitalized and recommendations will be made for continued care. Should your veterinarian recommend physical therapy and rehabilitation services after orthopedic surgery (performed elsewhere), for pain relief due to chronic disease, or to treat a variety of medical conditions such as tissue damage due to trauma or injury, neurologic conditions, and muscle loss and osteoarthritis in aging patients we ask that call the office to speak to out PT department for recommendations on facilities that can provide physiotherapy.
